On July 18, 2008, ABC's 20/20 aired a report non-Mormon polygamy, "Lifting the Veil on Polygamy - Plural Marriage Advocates Defend the Practice From What They Say Is a Bad Rap.” It was part of an hour-long John Stossel special looking into how big government over-reaches into what consenting adults do. ABC offers the entire episode for sale on the ABC web-site.

The TruthBearer.org organization's founder, Mark Henkel, was featured extensively in the piece. He made a number of powerful sound-bites, from topics of Hugh Hefner's TV show, to the media on Warren Jeffs, to the Bible's polygamist heroes. As the words, "Mark Henkel - National Polygamy Advocate" were displayed on-screen below him, Mr. Henkel, for example, was shown saying how those who say polygamy is "immoral" are actually saying that Abraham, Israel, and David are supposedly "immoral." The piece also showed an African American Jewish polygamous family and an evangelical Christian polygamous family, who were clearly all consenting adults and who had nothing to do with Mormonism or Islam. Both families made excellent quotes as well.

The broadcast was so powerful that John Stossel later wrote a syndicated column about it, How Many Wives Is Too Many?". His op-ed was picked up around the world, from the New York Sun in the U.S. to La Revista de agosto in Spain.

The op-ed was also picked up by many conservative opinion web-sites, such as:

Undoubtedly, this project was historic and powerful. Finally, broadcast television had reported the real facts. Namely, most polygamists are normal consenting adults, have nothing to do with underage crimes, oppose criminal Warren Jeffs, and do not believe in anything Mormon-bsed. This show was a major success in confirmation of the TruthBearer.org organization's diligent work to get those facts out. Both Mark Henkel and the TruthBearer.org organization are grateful to the show's specific producer and to John Stossel himself for making TV history by so reporting the facts truthfully for the first time ever.
