On September 20, 2007, Mark Henkel, the Founder of the TruthBearer.org organization, appeared as a phone-in guest on the pay network CourtTV's news talk show, OPEN COURT: Bloom & Politan. Speaking over a backdrop of his own picture and a satellite image of Old Orchard Beach, Maine, Mr. Henkel was there to provide a national perspective in the then-current trial, Warren Jeffs.
The discussion was lively and went very well.
In this interview, Mr. Henkel repeated one of his well-known sound-bites, "Nobody in the history of the universe has ever 'escaped from polygamy,' any more than anyone has ever 'escaped from monogamy. ' All they have escaped is abuse, or a sect with cult issues of abuse. But no one has ever escaped from polygamy. It's like saying you have a woman who has been battered by a monogamous husband; she escapes from him, and suddenly tells the world, she's escaped from monogamy. That's ridiculous." (Mr. Henkel has repeatedly declared in numerous interviews his total compassion for al who have been abused, even as those who have been abused incorrectly associate their abuse as if polygamy was the cause. Polygamy was not the actual problem - abuse or cult-control are the real issues at work.)
As well, in the interview, co-host, Lisa Bloom, also openly declares the positive statement, "I, frankly, don't care what consenting-adults do." To that, Mr. Henkel replied, "That's all we're talking about. That's all I am talking about." This was a very positive interview, indeed!
