On September 26, 2007, Mark Henkel, the Founder of the TruthBearer.org organization, again appeared as a phone-in guest on the pay network CourtTV's news talk show, Jami Floyd: BEST DEFENSE. He had been asked back, after being on the show during the previous week , on 9/20/2007 and 9/21/2007. Yet again speaking over a backdrop of his own picture and a satellite image of Old Orchard Beach, Maine, Mr. Henkel was there to provide a national perspective in the then-current trial, Warren Jeffs, as the "Guilty" verdict had been just handed down.
The interview began with a brief introduction. It was quickly followed a few minutes of recorded testimony frm the trial of Elissa Wall, the young woman whom Jeffs had arranged the marriage to her unmarried 19-year-old cousin when she was 14. Following the recording, Ms. Floyd conducted a very positive and intellectual conversation with Mr. Henkel.
Ms. Floyd asked as her last question, "What do you think, Mark, the message this jury has sent will be to the larger society? As a polygamy adbvocate, are you concerned that there's a mixed message, or that there may be a confusion out there about Warren jeffs and the folks you represent? Mr. Henkel replied with yet another of his sound-bites, "To compare Warren Jeffs to normal consenting-adult polygamists outside of the Mormon paradigm is like using Karen Carpenter - she was the singer in the '70s who basically died of anorexia - and it's like holding Karen Carpenter up as an example to criminalize all dieters." Ms. Floyd burst into laughter. In closing, she acknowledged, "that's a fair analogy. You've had some good ones in the course of the trial!"
