The Kevin and Bean Show
On March 22, 2006, Mark Henkel, the Founder of TruthBearer.org, appeared as a guest on KROQ's morning radio program, The Kevin and Bean Show. The show, having an audience of 1.6 million listeners, allowed the polygamy discussion to be positively presented in an entertaining but intelligent way.
The hosts were fascinated by reading the March 20, 2006 Newsweek article about polygamy. While Kevin was away for the day of this radio interview, Bean (nickname, short for "Beanstock" because of his height) conducted the show with his fellow hosts, Ralph and Lisa.
Together, they asked good questions in a radio-entertaining way to which Mark Henkel was able to provide accurate information.
Here is a small sample of Mark Henkel's quotes on the show:
...I am not for same sex marriage; and, frankly, I refer to it as "the biological impossibility of same sex marriage." However, the "polygamy rights as the next civil rights battle" is the solution that resolves the "same sex marriage" debate in a win-win for both sides of the issue - because true conservatism is limited government, gets government out of it altogether, and if homosexuals want to imagine that they're being "married," well have at it. But [what they imagine] doesn't have any legal basis, so it doesn't matter. So everybody wins.
...The only function of government in marriage whatsoever could potentially be at the municipal level, as a repository of public records of the contractual arrangements that consenting adults make. That's it. Period.
...I've got the sound-bite out there, "Polygamy rights is the next civil rights battle," and it's not that it's a slippery slope of one thing to the next to the next. But rather, we see polygamy rights as actually resolving this exhausting, tiresome same-sex marriage debate in a win-win way for both sides...
Mark Henkel also provided many other insights too, from the level of male maturity needed for polygamy, to really caring about women, to how genuinely consenting-adult Christian Polygamy allows women choices, etc.
Later that same morning, one of that show's listeners found a way to email the TruthBearer.org organization. They sent the following complimentary email:
I heard one of your leaders give an interview on KROQ this morning.
I'm writing to compliment him on his BRILLIANT and FLAWLESS performance in a HOSTILE environment. He spoke quickly, intelligently, factually, and logically.
Furthermore, to identify himself as a Conservative in that environment (which, I would opine that he's actually a Libertarian, but I digress), and to speak without raising ANY serious objections, AND to strongly convince one of the DJ's in his purpose is especially OUTSTANDING.
I can't remember the last time I've heard such eloquent, strong, and profound oration. FIVE STARS. *****
What made it even better was that he was promoting limited government.
Thank you
While neither this organization nor its Constitutonalist conservative founder, Mark Henkel, believe that the understandably politically-neutral show was ever "hostile" to him, the hosts were quite positively surprised at how his arguments were so persuasive to them as well. Even so, the unexpected complimentary email from a surpised and appreciative listener was very gratefully received.
Ultimately, that email is reflective of the professionalism of the hosts of The Kevin and Bean Show. They truly afforded an intelligent as well as entertaining means by which the arguments of Christian Polygamy and polygamy rights were allowed to be presented honestly and accurately. For that, the TruthBearer.org organization is grateful to the show and its hosts.
Advance orders for the audiocassette recording of this interview are currently available only for TruthBearer.org MEMBERS.
